A deduction voyage · sketch

Solve the case, read the hands, jump.

The map to the Hidden Star was torn into pieces. At every starport one traveller carries a piece. Work out who is who from the customs photos or the cargo ledger, send your answer to the relay, then read the next coordinates on the crew's fingers and jump. The last piece leads to the treasure.

Choose how to play: Photos (customs camera spots, the easiest to start with) or Ledger, written in Words, Pictures or Scenes, with plain numbers or alien hand numerals. Play a whole Voyage, or just Single puzzles with no map and no jumps. Voyages come in four lengths: Quick and Short (3 aliens, 3 piers), Standard (4 and 4) and Long (5 and 5). Today's case is the same for everyone today. Helps lets you switch colour coding, hints, the X-ray and simple counting on or off. More under How to play, at the bottom.

The case at this pier

Who is who, and who carries what?

Tap an alien to look closer at the hands. Changing the length starts a new voyage. The relay confirms correctly identified aliens two at a time. X-ray scans and hints help, and the counters at the top keep score.

How to play

Who is who, at every pier

  • The cards are the aliens on the pier, Alien A, B, C… Tap one to see its hands up close. For each alien, pick a name, a home planet and what it carries.
  • Photos: the customs camera caught each alien at one spot. A spot shows only part of an alien, such as the antennae, the eyes, a hand or the markings. A speech bubble gives a name, and a see-through suitcase shows the cargo and a home-planet sticker. Tap a spot to look closer. ✕ puts a spot or a whole photo aside when you're done with it, and ↺ brings it back.
  • Ledger: the same kind of case as a list of entries, in Words, Pictures or Scenes. ✓ ticks an entry off.
  • The relay confirms correctly identified aliens two at a time and never says which ones are wrong. Hint points at the next real deduction, and pressing it again fills that answer in. The X-ray shows what one alien carries, once per case.
  • The coordinates: the alien with the map piece has its crew hold up fingers, and each crew member is one digit in that species' counting. Pick the matching star and jump. Simple counting, under Helps, turns this into one number made of the raised fingers, for younger players.
